This is the latest song from Charles Pettee, mandolin player, and co-founder of Chapel Hill, NC's bluegrass group The Shady Grove Band (www.theshadygroveband.com). Many thanks to Chris Frank of the Red Clay Ramblers (www.efolkmusic.com) for taking time before a recording session at the Rubber Room (www.rubberroomstudio.com) to accompany Charles on the accordion. It blends nicely, we think, with Charles' 1946 Martin D-18!
This song is dedicated to Jim and Regina Bridgman. Charles met Jim several years ago, when he was performing at the Shakori Hills GrassrootsFest in Silk Hope, NC with his band Charles Pettee & FolkPsalm (www.folkpsalm.com). During the performance, Charles dedicated a song to young Joey Timmons, a teenager fighting leukemia. Jim, at that time in remission from his own leukemia, heard the dedication, introduced himself to Charles, and began to visit Joey and to get to know the Timmons family. Recently, and tragically, Jim's leukemia returned, and Jim is currently recovering from a bone marrow transplant. Charles performed this composition for Jim and Regina, and they appreciated its message of hope, and its assertion of a reality, (the "Dream"), that transcends and encompasses our own individual dreams. In fact, Jim and Regina's solid faith, unwavering in the face of Jim's ordeals, is a much brighter testimony to the "transcendent Dream" than any song, or any sermon, will ever be. Therefore, when Jim approved the song and its message, Charles said, "Very well, then, the song is yours, Jim!"
Thank you for viewing this song, and for sharing it!
