Barry Long

Creative Technologies Management

A lifelong sailor and boat builder, Barry Long studied communications at the College of William & Mary. In the late ’80’s he directed the Chesapeake Bay Youth Conservation Corps for the Virginia Department of Conservation. He served as Communications Coordinator for the Department of Planning & Recreational Resources, and was liaison to the Virginia General Assembly, tracking and advising on legislation concerning natural resources in the Commonwealth. Barry served on the Town Council in Scottsville, Virginia, as well as the Planning Commission, and is Chairman of the Board of Zoning Appeals.

In the private sector, he developed and directed the computer graphics division of a $40mm publication printer. As chief technology evangelist, he supported publishers nationwide through major industry transitions, from the earliest desktop publishing systems to mobile platform deployment, and has been featured speaker at industry conferences and seminars.

As a freelance writer, photographer and videographer since his early teens, Barry has traveled extensively, won national awards, and had his work displayed in solo gallery shows and traveling exhibitions.

Barry recently completed construction of two wooden sailboats based on a 19th century design, and sails them with family and friends in marshes and bays all along the eastern seaboard.
